    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Job Title: Student Services Interpreter/Translator Admin Assistant
    Employment: ; 12 Month Calendar
    Salary:
    Reports to: Director of Student Services
    Supervises: No Supervisory Responsibilities
    Qualifications:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Bilingual in English and the particular language needed to fill the position.
    REQUIRED SKILLS:
    • Interpreting for extended periods of time.
    • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
    • Awareness of Cultural differences and sensitivities.
    • Required to perform multiple non-technical tasks with a frequent need to upgrade skills due to changing job conditions.
    • Requires typing and the use of computer word processing and the use of spreadsheets.
    Perform basic math including calculation of fractions, percents and/or ratios.
    • Read a variety of manuals; write documents following prescribed formats and/or present information before groups.
    • Knowledge of school office procedures, basic bookkeeping procedures, operation of standard office machines and computer operation.
    • Communicate with others in a clear and precise manner and work cooperatively and tactfully with staff and public even in times of stress.

    Essential Functions:
    • Serves as district translator at meetings with parents translating information from English to Spanish, including special education multidisciplinary conferences, IEP meetings, disciplinary and other parent meetings. Works with school psychologists, speech therapists and teachers translating during evaluations and screening of students. Translates Spanish documents into English as needed.
    • Translates district documents from English to Spanish, including special education forms, parent notices and letters, and other documents as needed. Consults with writer of original documents to ensure appropriate message is translated.
    • Prepares documents that have been translated by typing into computer. Ensures correct grammar is used in translation. Makes copies as required. Performs secretarial/clerical duties including answering phones, typing, filing and word processing; performs other duties as assigned
    • Performs administrative/clerical duties for the purpose of assisting the Director in the performance of their work and the efficient operation of the Student Services Department.
    • Uphold and enforce school rules, administration instructions and regulations, board policy and state regulations
    • Performs administrative/clerical duties for the purpose of assisting the Director in the performance of their work and the efficient operation of the Student Services Department.
    • Attends meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
    • Responds to inquiries from various internal and external parties (e.g. district staff, public agencies, etc.) for the purpose of providing information, facilitating communication among departments and/or providing direction as may be required
    • Independently researches issues/concerns and brings them to resolution.
    • Schedules various meetings for the purpose of assisting in meeting staff needs and efficient utilization of personnel, equipment and facilities.
    • Follow ethical codes that protect the confidentiality of information.
    • Coordinates with the Director
    • Maintains records/files for the purpose of documenting and/or providing reliable information and compliance with all applicable laws, statutes, and policy requirements.
    • Attends meetings as required for receiving and conveying information.
    • Willingness to become knowledgeable regarding select policies, regulations and legal requirements as related to Student Services
    • Coordinate with Student Service Administrative Assistant and Manager to maintain Special Education Files
    • Regular and punctual attendance required to meet essential function of job responsibilities.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
