    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Job Title: Cafeteria Monitor
    Reports to: Principal/AP/Director of Food Services
    Job Overview:
    The Food Service cafeteria helper may work anywhere on property where food is prepared. This person will assist the students to get a compliant breakfast and lunch. Duties will also include cleaning and sanitizing equipment and cafeteria tables. The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but Balsz School District may identify other responsibilities of the position. These responsibilities may differ depending on business necessities.
    General Responsibilities:
    • Read and understand menus
    • Clean and sanitize workstations and cafeteria tables following regulatory rules and procedures.
    • May taste test products.
    • Interact with customers in the serving and dining areas.
    • Participate in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
    • Comply with all HACCP policies and procedures.
    • May work on a serving line to distribute food.
    Breakfast:
    • 6:45 am punch in and report to the cafeteria.
    • You will be assigned to the bus gate or the walk-in gate.
    • You must direct and accompany all students to the cafeteria.
    • You will make sure that students stay in line and
    • You will ensure that all students get a reimbursable compliant breakfast (Supervisor will let you know what the students must get)
    • You will ensure that all students take only one breakfast and don’t come back for a second one.
    • You will monitor the cafeteria until 7:30 am.
    • Other school duties will be assigned to you in the kitchen, cafeteria and/or school between breakfast and lunch.
    Lunch:
    • 10:30am Report to the cafeteria for assignment during lunch period.
    • You will be assigned a lunch line and will make sure that all students are forming a single line and are getting a reimbursable lunch (Supervisor will let you know on what students must get)
    • You will supervise the cafeteria.
    • For breakfast and lunch, you will make sure that sealed food items that students don’t want to eat are placed on the ‘share table’.
    • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Job Qualifications:
    Experience/Knowledge:
    • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred.
    • No previous work experience required.
    Skills/Aptitude:
    • Presents self in a highly professional manner to others and understands that honesty and ethics are essential.
    • Ability to maintain a positive attitude.
    • Ability to communicate with co-workers, customers and other departments with professionalism and respect.
    • Maintains a professional relationship with all coworkers, supervisors, managers, customers, and client representatives.
    • Ability to use a computer.
    • Ability to provide clear directions and respond to customers.
    • Basic food-handling skills, must obtain Maricopa County Health Department Food Handler’s Card.

    General Qualifications:
    • Willingness to be open to learning.
    • Maturity of judgment and behavior.
    • Maintains high standard for work areas and appearance.
    • Maintains a positive attitude.
    • Must comply with any dress code requirements.
    • Attends work and shows up for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity.



    Physical Requirements:
    • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses.
    • Significant walking or other means of mobility.
    • Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
    • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 40 pounds.
    Working Conditions (may add additional conditions specific to defined work location):
    • Indoor and outdoor setting.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be outside and inside and must be able to endure heat and air-conditioned environment.
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
    Unit Description:
    All employees must follow all Balsz School District guidelines.
