    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Job Title: Cafeteria Monitor
    Employment: 9 Months, Benefitted
    Salary: Classified Salary Schedule
    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
    Reports to: Principal/AP/May report to a Food Services supervisor

    Job Overview:
    The Food Service cafeteria monitor will work with supervision from the Balsz Elementary School District selected food services organization. They may work anywhere on property where food is prepared. This person will assist the students to get a compliant breakfast and lunch. Duties will also include cleaning and sanitizing equipment and cafeteria tables. The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but Balsz School District may identify other responsibilities of the position. These responsibilities may differ depending on business necessities.

    Qualifications:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent: preferred.
    • No previous work experience required.
    Required Skills:
    • Willingness to be open to learning.
    • Maturity of judgment and behavior.
    • Maintains high standard for work areas and appearance.
    • Maintains a positive attitude.
    • Must comply with any dress code requirements.
    • Attends work and shows up for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity.
    Essential Functions:
    • Presents self in a highly professional manner to others and understands that honesty and ethics are essential.
    • Ability to maintain a positive attitude.
    • Ability to communicate with co-workers, customers and other departments with professionalism and respect.
    • Maintains a professional relationship with all coworkers, supervisors, managers, customers, and client representatives.
    • Ability to use a computer.
    • Ability to provide clear directions and respond to customers.
    • Basic food-handling skills, must obtain Maricopa County Health Department Food Handler’s Card.
    • Indoor and outdoor setting.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be outside and inside and must be able to endure heat and air-conditioned environment.
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
    • Read and understand menus.
    • Clean and sanitize workstations and cafeteria tables following regulatory rules and procedures.
    • May taste test products.
    • Interact with customers in the serving and dining areas.
    • Participate in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
    • Comply with all HACCP policies and procedures.
    • May work on a serving line to distribute food.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours). Significant walking or other means of mobility.
